Mount Tambora is an active volcano on an island in Indonesia. In 1815, it produced the largest volcanic eruption in recorded history. This eruption shot volcanic excrement over fifty thousand miles into the atmosphere blocking out a large percentage of sunlight. 1816 became known as the "Year Without a Summer" because of the incredible impact the eruption had on North American and European weather. In New England, they truly had a "Christmas in July".
